CDB oil is all the rage these days. But does CBD help migraines?

Cannabidiol, or CBD oil, is known to have pain relieving properties. It’s often prescribed to help treat different types of chronic pain.

Does CBD Help Migraines?

Studies do suggest that CBD oil can help treat migraine headaches. That is welcome news to those who suffer from migraines and don’t get relief from other treatments.

Generally, CBD oil is used to relieve neurological pain. Now, the American Migraine Foundation reports that CBD oil looks to be a promising treatment for migraine.

Now keep in mind, that it is still not approved as an effective migraine treatment by the Food and Drug Administration or the FDA. As mentioned, there are multiple studies that show CBD may help alleviate the pain and symptoms of a migraine. But more data needs to be collected and studied before CBD oil becomes an official treatment option.

Will CBD Get You High?

Using CBD oil to ease the pains of a migraine will not get you high. It is different from tetrahydrocannabinol or THC which is a cannabis compound that gets you high.

What it does, however, is relieve pain and reduce inflammation in the body. CBD relieves pain because it affects the specific receptors in the brain.

According to research, CBD can help you with the following:

  • Reduce inflammation
  • Relieve pain
  • Ease nausea
  • Anticonvulsant effects

All of these things are linked to migraines.

It supports the brain’s endocannabinoid system or ECS. This system interacts with the cell receptors in our body. It regulates every system in the body and can help modulate one’s mood, pain perception, appetite, inflammation, and more.

Moreover, research suggestions that endocannabinoid deficiency can contribute to migraines and other chronic pain conditions.

This means that taking CBD oil regularly may help restore the balance in the endocannabinoid system. In return, it could help reduce migraines.

CBD Oil: How Much, Where To Get It and How To Take It

If you’re using CBD for the first time, it is recommended to start with low doses. Then gradually increase the dose to monitor the effects on your body.

CBD oil is legal in all 50 states of the United States. You should be able to easily find it locally. Or, if you prefer, there are a number of online retailers who sell it. But if you’re unsure of what to get, it’s best to consult with your doctor first.

You can take CBD oil in different ways. However, the most effective and efficient way to do so is by taking it sublingually. Putting CBD oil under your tongue will help with quicker absorption.

CBD oil is relatively non-toxic. However, it does have some side effects for some people. Side effects can include sleepiness, diarrhea and nausea.
